HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

For International Women’s Day we’re placing the spotlight on to women making monumental changes in their social enterprises and communities in Islington and beyond. Here are 5 ladies doing impactful work locally, that we think you should know about!

Ellora Torchia

Ellora is one half of ‘a father and daughter culinary duo who have been vegan for over thirty years, bringing fresh, handmade, eco- conscious, low impact goods to food-lovers across London.’

The Arty Vegan’s zero waste store in Chapel Market boasts a delicious range of foods and eco products and we’ve been lucky enough to have Ellora and her father cater for a few Better Space events and lunches.

Jess Thompson

Our society would not be as interesting without the influence of migrant cultures,”

Jess set up social enterprise Migrateful in 2017 which ‘helps London-based refugees get on their feet through training them as chefs. They then teach classes on how to cook the cuisines of their home nations.’ Migrateful’s beautiful new cookery school is based at The Peel Institute just across the road from Better Space.

Chrystle Perkins

Founder of Reggaerobics, Chrystle merged aerobics with reggae music to entice us all to have fun whilst exercising.

“The classes are upbeat and energetic. It’s fun and lively but the overall emphasis is to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”

Rosie Hore

The idea of “walking down the road and having my business where I live” inspired Rosie to set up shop locally in Clerkenwell’s St James’s courtyard.

Clerkenwell Kiosk offers fantastic artisan coffee (roasted in East London), seasonal food and the warmest welcome chats. Congratulations to Rosie for being open and bringing people together for a whole year!

Zara Afflick

“What began as a vision became a reality…”

Box Of Prints LTD was founded in April 2016 by Zara Afflick with the aim of releasing boldness, optimism and passion to prints. From the first letter of these words, was created Box of Print, BOP.

The company specialises in creating unique printed fabrics, often regarded as vibrant and rich in layered textures!
