Why Better Space?

Here at Better Space, we are committed to provide affordable memberships to access excellent facilities, super-fast internet and gain a network of entrepreneurial and employment support. We ask that members ‘give back’ some of their time to support community events to help the next generation of entrepreneurs develop skills and experience right here in Islington. With this in place a positive social impact is made and creates support for local businesses in an inclusive environment where all people are welcome! 

When can I access Better Space?

Flexi, Easy and Better members can access the space from 8:30am to 10pm.  
The Better Space team will be on site from 8:30am until 6pm. Our security guard will be present from 6pm – 10pm to lock up. Day pass users may access the space from 9am until 6pm. 

Better Space is not open at weekends, unless for pre-arranged bookings. 

Will we have our own access pass to the building?

All members will be issued with a Better Space door access pass that also works for use of our printers.

What type of memberships are on offer? How much do they cost?

We currently offer Flexi, Easy & Better memberships. You can find an overview of these packages here, or speak to a member of the team to discuss.

Are Any perks included with my membership?

Is there a minimum subscription duration? What is the notice period?

Our contracts are made out for a year’s duration (364 days (about 12 months) purely for efficient admin purposes (rolling monthly billing), but you have a 30-day notice period for terminating any of the memberships you take.

How do I book a meeting room?

Members can book meeting rooms on our booking platform Nexudus.  
Better Space operates on a credit usage system. Our meeting rooms require 2 credits per hour which are deducted from your monthly allowance. If your membership does not include any credits or exceed your credits, hourly rates apply. 

Rooms are available Monday to Friday: 8:30am to 9 pm please note that after 6 pm there will be no technical support.

How do I book a tour?

We do accept walk in request for tours but suggest enquiring in advance so you receive a tailored experience. 

How accessible is Better Space for wheelchair users?

Better Space has been designed with wide corridors, lifts, double doors and accessible bathrooms, making it accessible for wheelchair use.

What is the internet speed?

Approximately 193.1 Mbps download speed, and 178.1 Mbps upload

Can I bring clients or guests to the space?

Yes, guests are welcome and can be registered on Nexudus or by giving a member of the Community Team a heads up. Guests can perch in our communal spaces when they’re not in meetings with you, but if you’d like them to have a desk for the day, we will offer you a discounted day pass rate. Just ask!

What kitchen facilities do you have?

We have four microwaves, fridges, a hot water tap and a Vitro X Coffee Machine! Members are welcome to use our plates, cutlery and other handy items, and make the most of our free fruit and snacks.

When can I book the event space for? How much does it cost?

The space can be hired outside of core coworking hours (9am - 6pm) including evenings (according to staff availability). The cost of the presentation space varies according to memberships and is also available to local organizations or partners. Email betterspace@city.ac.uk for price enquires.

How does it work with the other spaces? e.g meeting rooms, video conferencing, event & presentation space, informal break-out areas, phone booths? Is there a fee for us of all of these?

You will have a certain number of credits for meeting rooms and breakout spaces with each membership (that can be shared within your team too). The larger video conferencing meeting rooms can be booked for 2 credits per hour and the breakout spaces for 1 credit per hour. Phone booths are free to grab when vacant. You can top up your credits as well as share credits within your team.

How much does printing cost?

£5 worth of printing credits per month are included in all memberships. Costs are 20p per side colour print and 5p for B&W.

Can I leave my laptop at my desk overnight?

Only Better membership (a dedicated desk that is not bookable by anyone else) holders are invited to leave a monitor on the desk overnight – otherwise we run a clear desk policy and ask you to use the lockers for storing your belongings. Lockers can be taken for a one-off cost of £15 per locker (they are 105cm tall, 48cm wide and 46cm deep) – this is a refundable deposit for potential loss of keys.

Is there a shower and somewhere to park bikes?

Yes! We have 2 showers downstairs and 2 types of bike storage available. There are 8 bike stands just outside our front door (good visibility from within the space) and we also have a discount for Joe’s Bike Space, a 2-minute walk away. This offers a more secure bike storage option at £1 a day.

Can I book half days?

Our platform does not work in half days so any desk-booked visit to the space would equate to a single day pass.

Can I use Better Space’s address for mail and deliveries?

Better Space members may have their post and small parcels delivered to our address between the hours of 7am till 7pm. Just send an email to betterspace@city.ac.uk to notify us.

What is your pet policy?

Unfortunately, we cannot allow any pets in the office. The only animals that are welcome into the space are trained service animals who provide a specific support function to an individual.

Do you provide catering for events?

We can provide recommendations for local catering services, please just as one of the team. We have 60 glasses and tableware that can be used.

Do you have any PC’s or Laptops that I can borrow?

Not at the moment, but watch this space.
